Taipei Grand Mosque (臺北清真寺)

Mosque · Taipei, Taiwan

Taipei Grand Mosque is the main mosque in Taipei and one of the most important Islamic landmarks in Taiwan. The current building was completed in 1960 on Xinsheng South Road in Da’an District, opposite Da’an Forest Park. It was designed by architect C.C. Yang, whose other work is associated with major public buildings in Taipei. The mosque was built with support from local and overseas Muslim communities, including funding connected with Saudi Arabia, and it became a central place of worship for Taipei’s Muslim population.

The mosque is known for its large domed roof, twin minarets, prayer hall, washing facilities, courtyards, offices, and gathering spaces. Its dome measures about 15 metres in height and diameter and is supported without beams. The design uses Islamic architectural elements within a Taiwanese urban setting, with geometric decoration, arches, rugs, chandeliers, and a formal entrance facing the street. Its location near Da’an Park and the MRT makes it accessible for local residents, students, workers, and visitors. Taipei Grand Mosque continues to serve as a religious, educational, and community centre for Muslims in the city.
