Jashan Celebrating Indian Cuisine
Fine Dining · Hong Kong, China
Cuisines: Indian
A Michelin Guide mention in 2013, the first for an Indian restaurant in Hong Kong, put Jashan on the city's culinary map early, and the Amber Lodge address on Hollywood Road has stayed a fixture of Central's Indian dining scene since. The restaurant later added a Masterchef Recommendation from the Asian Art of Cuisine Society in 2019, a run of recognition that has shaped its reputation as one of the more consistent Indian kitchens in the district.
A team of chefs from India runs the kitchen, working across a menu that leans on tandoori cooking and slow-built curries. A rack of lamb, cooked until tender enough to pull apart with a fork, sits alongside a butter chicken regulars describe as difficult to stop eating, plus chicken kadai, rogan josh, and a prawn vindaloo for those wanting more heat. Bread comes in several forms from the tandoor, plain naan through to a charcoal cheese naan and a zaatar naan that nods toward Middle Eastern flavours, alongside parathas and kulchas. Paneer fritters open the appetiser list, and dessert runs through gulab jamun, saffron kulfi, and halwa. A lunch buffet gives a faster way to sample the range without committing to a full à la carte order.
Hollywood Road runs through one of Central's older, more layered streets, known these days for antique shops and contemporary galleries as much as for its restaurants, and Amber Lodge sits within that mix a short climb up from the escalator link into SoHo. The dining room favours a settled, upscale-casual atmosphere over anything showy, matched by attentive service that reviewers single out alongside the food itself. Its position within walking distance of both the Central business district and SoHo's restaurant cluster gives it a lunch crowd from nearby offices and a dinner crowd drawn specifically for the kitchen.
