Jiak Modern Tze Char at HillV2 is the original and flagship outlet of this beloved halal Chinese restaurant, having opened in 2017 in the suburban mall nestled in the Hillview residential enclave. Set in a modern, cosy, and air-conditioned environment, it is one of the rare halal tze char restaurants in Singapore that offers the full Chinese coffeeshop experience — bold wok flavours, hearty sharing dishes, and a relaxed family-friendly atmosphere — without any pork or lard, making it accessible to diners of all backgrounds.
The menu is a well-curated spread of tze char classics done with care and consistency. The undisputed star is the signature Fish Head Curry — an aromatic, spicy curry where the fish is slow-cooked until it absorbs the spices and turns fork-tender, drawing regulars back time and again. Other standouts include the crispy, non-greasy Prawn Paste Chicken, hot plate beancurd, Sambal Kangkong with its homemade kick, Broccoli with Scallop, Claypot Golden Chicken, Black Pepper Wagyu Beef, Salted Egg Prawns, and a Kopi-O Chicken that carries a distinctly local character. The kitchen also dishes out squid ink beehoon — reportedly the first in Singapore — served on a hotplate with a generous mix of lala, prawns, and squid. Rice and noodle dishes round out the menu comfortably. The restaurant draws a steady lunch crowd from the surrounding neighbourhood and nearby offices, typically filling to a full house by midday on weekdays.
